Carly Jaffe began working at Michelle’s Young at Art when she was 18, gaining valuable experience in the creative arts. In 2019, when the company was about to close, she took a significant risk by purchasing it in August and rebranding it as The Vivid Canvas. She and her team renovated the space to give it a fresh, modern look. However, just seven months later, the Covid-19 pandemic forced us to shut our doors, reducing our student count from 100 to just 20 upon reopening in late September. Despite this setback, we saw a gradual increase in enrollment. The following summer, we expanded and doubled our classroom space. Today, we have approximately 140 students and are excited to continue growing and inspiring more aspiring artists.
We prioritize health and safety by implementing a 15-minute cleaning and organizing period between all classes. This allows our staff to fully disinfect each workstation before the next group of students arrives. Additionally, maintaining an organized studio helps prevent accidents and ensures a smooth transition for both departing and arriving students.
We are proud of our talented teachers, who are all accomplished artists continuing their art education. They all bring unique creativity and passion to their teaching. Our students explore and create diverse styles, from traditional landscapes to contemporary still-lives and animal
“Hi everyone! My name is Carly, proud owner and teacher of The Vivid Canvas Art Studio. Before becoming owner of our awesome, little studio, I had been a teacher here for three years and really grew close to the friendly, artistic community we have established. I have 3 AAs from Moorpark College in Studio Arts, Sociology, and Social adn Behavio I love the challenge in art of creating the illusion of three-dimensional subjects/objects through the use of two-dimensional materials. In particular, I really enjoy working with graphite, and acrylic and oil paint the most. When I’m not teaching or working on my own personal art pieces, I’m usually keeping my crazy dog, Cooper, busy!
It fills my heart with such happiness to teach and share the fascinating experience of art with others, of all ages. Art is necessary in all of our lives’, and I am so thrilled that I can provide a comfortable space for anyone, of any age, to create art.”
“Hello friends! My name is Andrew and I’m excited to meet and work with you! I’ve worked here for more than three years now, all while being a student at CSU Channel Islands, studying art and pursuing an MFA in Studio Art; My eventual goal is becoming a college art professor. I’ve been mostly self-taught, developing my own drawing and painting skills for more than 20 years of my life, and focusing on illustration and painting of the human figure; I especially love teaching figure drawing and anatomy to my students. As a student myself, I’ve learned so much and grown in my knowledge and ability to draw and paint. Every new thing I learn, I immediately apply to the lessons I teach, adapting to get better results out of the students. Looking forward to working with you!”

“Hello everyone! My name is Dana and I am so delighted to work here as an art instructor. As a child, art was my favorite hobby. I spent my summers drawing and painting. While attending Santa Susana High School, I majored in the Academy of Accelerated Academics and minored in the Academy of Performing Arts with dance. My first official art class was Drawing and Composition I at Moorpark College, and I immediately wanted to pursue a future career in art. I completed my AA Degree in Studio Arts. I have realized that art is not only a creative outlet for personal expression, it is a way to give back and inspire our community. I feel so lucky to be a part of this art studio!”
